Before buying a puppy, specify true reasons why you want to become a dog's owner. It is a mistake to think that your young children will appreciate a cute present. Only if the whole family agrees to cooperate and has a great desire to raise the pup, is it worth buying. However, Dachshunds are not likely to put up with an inferior position in the family. They are dignified and tend to get irritable if treated wrong. You have to respect the Dachshund's personality to enjoy its faithfulness and friendship. Therefore, small children and puppies might be a wonderful combination to look at, but problematic to handle.
Many perspective Dachshund owners do not intend to get involved in trials or shows routine. The Dachshund was bred for hunting purposes and you will definitely notice some hunting and chasing instincts in your pet. Dachshunds are highly trainable, clever dogs. Some Dachshund owners confess they could never imagine a cute Dachshund puppy would change their attitude and make them eager owners, breeders and handlers of the Dachshund. Therefore, it is wise to buy a pup from a responsible breeder.
If you plan to bring up a champion Dachshund, you may start choosing a puppy long before it is born. It involves visiting shows, speaking to the breeders, whose dam you liked and acquiring as much information about the Dachshund breed as possible.
Puppies are sold when they are 1.5-2 months old. Between the age of 2 and 3 months the pups must get all necessary shots. When actually choosing a puppy, examine its eyes and ears. Watch the puppy's movements. They should show no sign of fear, shyness or aggression. Sanitary conditions should be maintained. The pedigree is also important to have a look at.
Once you have brought the Dachshund puppy home, don't consider that you are bound to cope with all occurring problems alone. Contact your breeder, who will be glad to give you advice on housebreaking, socializing, feeding and training your pet. When properly cared for and loved, puppies will grow into elegant and smart adult Dachshunds.

Dachshunds Breeders - Dachshunds are believed to be descendants of the Tekel Dog known in Egypt in ancient times. More likely, however, the Dachshund began to form as a breed in the 16th century in South Germany. "Dachs" means "badger." "Hund" translates as "dog." The name itself reveals the original purpose of the breed: to follow badger to earth.
Breeders aimed at the dog that would combine necessary physical characteristics and vital temperamental traits. With an elongated body, low to ground, with short legs, the Dachshund is extremely versatile, brave, persistent and independent in work. If properly trained, they are able to take on foxes, rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels, besides badgers.
Dachshunds Information - Dachshunds originated in Germany about 300 years ago. These dogs were bred particularly to hunt badgers. Therefore, the Dachshund translates as the "badger dog" in German. Other names that refer to the Dachshund dog are Dachels, Dachsels, Teckels and the Sausage Dog.
Dachshunds are sometimes bred for hunting purposes nowadays, as well. Their acute sense of smell and inborn courage make them excellent hound dogs. Dachshunds are lively intelligent dogs, whose slightly comic appearance and unique guarding skills make them extremely popular family pets.
Dachshunds Pictures - Dachshunds are included in the hound dogs group and are highly praised as hunting dogs. This dog breed is famous all over the world for its outstanding capacity to independently perform its job in badger burrows and for its affectionate nature.
Hallmarks of the Dachshund breed are the unique elongated body, short legs, elegant muscular neck and moderately long rounded ears. Black eyes have a very intelligent expression. The Dachshund is extremely smart and is known to be apt to learn fast.
Dachshunds Rescues - Dachshunds have a reputation of being smart hunting dogs and very devoted family pets. Bred for the purpose of hunting badgers under ground, Dachshunds as family pets tend to display their hunting instincts in yards, digging tunnels, for example.
Everyone is sure to recognize the Dachshund by its specific looks. The elongated body, short legs and alert facial expression are trademarks of the breed. The Dachshund has a very good nose and a surprisingly loud voice. These hunting dog features make Dachshunds valuable guard dogs.
Dachshunds - Sporty and devoted, the Dachshund makes a great family dog. Although he is small, don't be misled. He makes an excellent watchdog because of his surprisingly loud bark! He can be slightly aggressive toward strangers. Widely known as the "sausage dog". He is low to the ground. His body is long with short muscular legs. There are six varieties of Dachshunds; smooth-haired, wire-haired and longhaired and they are in two sizes, Standard and Miniature. The smooth-haired Dachshie is the original strain, the wire and longhaired were obtained by crossing the smooth-haired with other breeds.
